In my Computing Concepts and Applications course, my teammate and I developed a Choose-Your-Own-Adventure text-based role-playing game on MATLAB. This game is based on Robert Frost's poem, "The Road Not Taken," which questions whether our choices matter. The game consists of four acts:
Act One: In Which We Enter The Woods
In the game's first act, the player is introduced to the story and has the opportunity to gather supplies.
Act Two: Where Friends Are Made
The player is introduced to the characters and makes decisions that affect the player's "personality" and future interactions with the characters.
Act Three: We Overcome
The player meets "monster" versions of the characters from Act Two, and is given the choice to talk, act, or fight. Each option's outcome depends on the player's choices in previous acts, such as talking to characters or gathering supplies.
Act Four: In Which We Discover Ourselves
The player is classified as passive, neutral, or aggressive and is shown statistics from their game.

Text from Act One

This game allows the player to analyze their choices throughout the game by updating the player's "charisma" level as the player makes each choice. This charisma level affects the player's success in future interactions with characters. In Act Four, the player is classified as passive, neutral, or aggressive based on their final charisma level.
The player is also shown a graph displaying how their health level, charisma level, and amount of coins changed throughout each interaction. Example graphs for players from each classification are shown below.
